Hitchhikers suffer stab wounds and broken bones
West Coast Police are trying to locate a vehicle that has been involved in an incident with two female German tourists this afternoon.
The women hitchhikers were picked up at Whataroa this afternoon by a man driving what is believed to be a blue SUV, possibly a Nissan Terrano or similar. The vehicle may be a two door.
The women were located near Franz Joseph about 4pm with serious injuries. One has suffered stab wounds and the other is believed to have broken bones. Their belongings are believed to still be in the vehicle that picked them up. Police are yet to establish exactly what has happened to the women.
The vehicle is believed to be travelling south of Ross. It is not yet clear whether there was more than one person in it when the women were picked up.
