Road and water upgrades for Thames' Hill Street
Thames' Hill Street residents are getting upgrades for their road, footpaths, kerbs and water supply, with work starting
this week.
We've contracted Opus and Higgins Contractors to do the upgrades and expect the project to finish in early May.
One of the ways we are reducing operating costs is finding smarter ways to bundle overlapping jobs together. For
example, in this case, our roading team needed to reconstruct the road because it had reached the end of its useful life
and with this, replace the footpath, kerb and channel. Our water team, on the other hand, also had a project coming up
for the same area to replace stormwater and drinking water infrastructure. So we're doing the construction once and
taking care of both projects at the same time.
This also means that residents only have the inconvenience once, and for a shorter time.
Work will be completed between 7:00am and 7:00pm and access to Hill Street will be restricted while work is underway
from the intersection of Sealey and Hill Street to the intersection of Richmond and Hill Street.
Letters have been sent to affected residents and our contractors will let you know personally if you are going to be
affected so they can make allowances to minimise your inconvenience.Background information

Roading
"Hill Street's road pavement has reached the end of its useful asset life. This project allows for the reconstruction of
the existing road pavement, kerb and channel and footpath replacement and new seal."
Water Services
"Investigation of Hill Street's water, stormwater and wastewater infrastructure was undertaken in 2013. From CCTV and
potholing exercises, both stormwater and water supply infrastructure were determined to be at the end of their useful
asset timeframes."
