High tides being closely monitored
The Auckland Emergency Coordination Centre continues to monitor adverse weather conditions across Auckland in the wake
of Cyclone Lusi.
Auckland Police have confirmed the 11 year-old boy reported earlier to be missing off Takapuna beach near the boat ramp
has been found at home.
Auckland Council Civil Defence controller Clive Manley says plans are in place should evacuations be required.
High tides on the east coast were forecast to peak at 7.56pm and may cause coastal erosion due to the large sea swell
that has developed.
Community Response Groups have been contacted and are working with Civil Defence staff and NZ Police to inform affected
people.
Clive Manley says about 50 properties were identified as potentially needing evacuation if the situation deteriorates
and those properties were being informed.
Most households chose to stay at their home. If not they were going to stay at homes of friends or other family members.
Residents are advised to contact the Auckland Council Call Centre (09)3010101 should they consider they needed help.
The areas likely to be affected by the coastal conditions are:
At high risk of coastal erosion (ie properties that are very close to the beach may be affected): Snells Beach, Waiwera,
Orewa, Milford, Cheltenham and Whangateau.
At moderate risk of coastal erosion: Stanmore Bay, Big Manly, Long Bay, Waiake, Browns Bay, Murrays/Mairangi Bay,
Campbells Bay, Castor Bay, Milford Beach, Takapuna Beach, Narrow Neck, Omaha, Hatfields Beach, Algies Bay and Claris.
Localised power outages, surface flooding, landslips and trees down were reported throughout the day but no significant
incidents were reported. At the present time, Vector says about 5000 customers are without power.
The Emergency Coordination Centre continues to monitor the region and will provide additional updates as necessary.
People are advised to be prepared and keep up to date with severe weather warnings and forecasts from MetService.
