Auckland weather conditions worsening
Conditions across Auckland are deteriorating as Cyclone Lusi continues to track south west of the North Island.
Localised power outages are occurring across the region with 2219 customers affected at 1000 hours. Vector is restoring affected customers.
Stormwater blockages from debris and persistent rainfall is causing isolated surface flooding around the region. No significant flooding issues have been identified as of 1000 hours. Reports of a rockfall blocking the Hibiscus Coast Highway at Waiwera have been received.
This morning rainfall forecasts indicate that accumulations may be higher than previously modelled. Rainfall north of Orewa may see an additional 50 - 70mm today with lesser amounts for the rest of the region.
Winds are still expected to increase in strength and peak this afternoon. Coastal erosion is still expected on northeastern beaches later today.
The Emergency Coordination Centre continues to monitor the region and will provide additional updates as necessary.
