Police looking to identify offender
Counties Manukau Police are investigating after a woman was grabbed by an unknown man whilst jogging through Auckland
Botanic Gardens this morning.
The 44 year old woman was jogging through the park when at around 8:30am a man grabbed her from behind and attempted to
pull her off the path. The woman managed to get away.
He was last seen running towards the east side of the gardens, near Katote Close.
The man is described as around 5"11 tall and of skinny build with dark skin, wearing a turquoise coloured hoodie and
long black pants. He was wearing socks but no shoes. He was later pictured wearing the hoodie around his waist and had a
dark t-shirt on.
Photographs taken from CCTV footage have been provided by Auckland Council, which has cameras stationed at the Botanic
Gardens.
"Anyone who recognises this man or knows anything about this incident should contact Police immediately," says Detective
Rob Cleary of Counties Manukau Police Crime Squad. "His actions are concerning to Police due to the fact that this woman
was grabbed from behind while she was by herself in a secluded area."
If you know who this person is, please contact Counties Manukau Crime Squad on 09 261 1321 as soon as possible.
Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Police advice to people walking or running alone is to avoid dark and isolated places, keep your cellphone where you can
reach it, and if possible stay in view of traffic or other pedestrians.
"Dial 111 immediately if you see any suspicious activity in a park or in your neighbourhood so that Police can respond
as soon as possible," says Detective Cleary.
