Operation to free trapped caver under way
An operation is currently under way to free a trapped caver on Mt Arthur in Kahurangi National Park.
Police search and rescue were alerted at 9pm on Saturday night that a 62 year old experienced male caver was stuck on the far side of a squeeze in a newly discovered cave on Mt Arthur.
Fellow cavers were able to pass through food and warm clothing to the trapped caver.
This morning a rescue team has been sent in to enlarge the squeeze. The rescue is currently underway.
