Armed Police In Wellington Car Chase
Police are investigating an incident that occurred yesterday evening in which a firearm was allegedly presented at occupants of a Wellington address.
Police, following up on a report from a member of public shortly after 6pm, conducted searches of a Kilbirnie address and the wider Wellington area looking for the offender and a female associate who had been present at the time.
Approximately an hour after the initial incident a car believed to be carrying both persons was seen near the address and subsequently followed onto the motorway by several armed units.
A short pursuit took place on the Hutt Motorway when the vehicle failed to stop for Police and ended when it was spiked after leaving the motorway and continuing on to the Western Hutt Road.
Both occupants of the vehicle were removed from the car without incident. The pursuit itself caused no safety issues as Police patrols had been used to prevent traffic approaching from behind and speeds are not believed to have been excessive at any stage of this incident.
The female driver of the vehicle has been charged with driving offences and released on Police Bail.
The male has been charged at this stage with firearms and drugs charges. More charges may be pending.
At this stage the full nature of the offence, type of firearm involved, and types of items recovered at the time is not available.
