Bring your dog to Upper Hutt’s Paws in the Park
Pooches and people will once again get together in Upper Hutt’s Tunnel Gully with the return of the very popular Paws in the Park day out. The event follows last year’s very successful walk, which attracted more than 200 people and 150 dogs to
explore the beautiful forest along Tane’s Track.
A partnership between Upper Hutt City Council and Greater Wellington Regional Council, Paws in the Park is designed to bring dog and nature lovers together to enjoy one of the many great forest walks on offer in the region.
After the hour-long walk, Paws in the Park will feature a dog agility display by Upper Hutt Dog Training School which will put the dogs through their paces.
Mitch Carroll from Greater Wellington Regional Council says “Last year Paws in the Park was another huge success so we
decided to repeat it. We’re hoping for even greater numbers this year.”
“It’s a really enjoyable few hours for dogs and people alike and gives us the opportunity to showcase our environment
and encourage people to get out into our parks. Tunnel Gully is a beautiful location and ideal for picnics, so people
can bring their lunch and relax in lovely surroundings.”
Paws in the Park will be held on Saturday 15 March between 11am – 2pm. Tunnel Gully is located just off SH2. To get there, head north on
Main Road North from Upper Hutt towards Rimutaka Hill, turn right at the Te Marua Store (6 km north of Upper Hutt) onto
Plateau Road and follow this road until it ends at Tunnel Gully Recreation Area.
Paws in the Park is part of Greater Wellington Regional Council’s Great Outdoor Summer Events programme, which is designed to encourage
people to enjoy the region’s many outdoor recreation opportunities.
Please remember to bring your dog on a lead and plastic bags to collect any dog poo!
The track is also suitable for single mountain buggies.
If the event is cancelled, this advice will be broadcast on Newstalk ZB.
