Girl critical after dog attack

A child is in a critical condition following a dog attack in Murupara this afternoon.
Police were informed of the attack shortly after 2pm. The child had been playing in the yard of a property owned by friends of the family when she was attacked by four Mastiff type dogs belonging to the owner of the property.
The girl was air-lifted to Rotorua Hospital where she is currently in a critical condition. All four dogs have been euthanized by a vet.
A police investigation is currently underway.
