No sign of missing German tramper
Search teams have spent the day in the Travers Saddle area of Nelson Lakes National Park searching for missing German tramper Christian Ulf Erik PREHN, aged 19.
The search has concentrated in the area the pack was found but searchers have found no trace of Mr PREHN. The helicopter and a dog team have returned to base and two ground teams are spending the night at the Travers Hut.
Search coordinator Senior Constable Dave Colville said the search would continue tomorrow, weather permitting.
He said several people who had been in the area have spoken with Police but so far none have had information about Mr PREHN's intentions.
Police would like to speak to a German woman called Angela Bähr who is believed to have spoken with Mr PREHN at one of the huts.
