Police and emergency services are attending a two vehicle crash on Chapel Rd in Flat Bush, south of Auckland.
One of the two vehicles has ended up on its roof with both vehicles sustaining extensive damage.
In that the investigation is now underway as to the cause of the crash, Police can confirm that the lone occupant of one of the vehicles is deceased.
The driver of the second vehicle left the scene prior to Police arrival where he is reported by witnesses to have been picked up by another vehicle. Although Police are following some positive leads as to the identity of the driver, he would be well advised to hand himself into any Police Station at his earliest opportunity.
Chapel Rd is now closed where it intersects with Ormiston to the South and Stancombe to the East. Diversions are in place.
Its estimated this road closure will be in place for up to 4 hours.
Enquiries are now in motion as to the identity of the deceased. Police and Victim Support will be advising the deceased's next of kin when these enquiries are completed.
Motorists are urged to avoid this area in their travels.
