Community grants applications closing soon
Time is running out for applications for funding from three community grants schemes administered by Horowhenua District Council.
Applications close at 5pm on Friday February 28 for the Horowhenua Community Development Grant, the Horowhenua Community Consultation Grant, and the Creative Communities Grant.
The Community Development Grant provides non-profit organisations with funding for events, projects and operating costs within the Horowhenua District. It distributes a total of $35,000 into the community during each funding round.
The Community Consultation Grant provides funding to resident and ratepayers associations that are formally constituted as incorporated societies. It also provides funding to cover the costs of becoming a formally constituted society. It can distribute up to $5000 each round.
And, the Creative Communities Grant is a national scheme, administrated by local government authorities on behalf of Creative New Zealand. It provides arts funding to local groups and individuals and has approximately $12,000 to distribute in each round.
Each of the grants are open for projects that begin from April 2014 onwards. Once applications close, the next round of funding for these schemes will in the 2014/2015 financial year and will open in July 2014.
Group Manager - Strategic Partnerships and Community Services, Monique Davidson says there was an overwhelming number of applications for these grants in the first round of 2013/2014.
"Round 2 is a golden opportunity for community groups and arts organisations to access what can otherwise be hard-to-reach funding  -  but with only a few days left, now is the time to put in an application," she said.
"We see the positive impacts and other benefits these grants have in our community and it is inspiring."
