Community Fun Day
Come and enjoy a Community Fun Day being held at the Mercury Bay Multi Sport Park on Saturday 24 May 2014 and find out what our facility has to offer.
"Netball and tennis codes are already using the Sports Park and junior rugby, rugby league and football are looking at options around either training and playing out here this winter, so this is an opportune time to get everyone out to see what can be done out at the Sports Park," says Multi Sport Park coordinator Sue Costello.
"We're working through the details of the day, but the plans are for a range of coaching clinics, short tournaments, training sessions and sports demonstrations for people all ages and fitness levels to enjoy," says Sue.
Once full details are confirmed we will be able to make a more official announcement. Right now we're working with sports and recreation codes to finalise details.
"Our vision is to create diverse sport and recreation opportunities and activities for all ages and cultures at the Sports Park," says Sue. "We want to make sure it's well used and supported by everyone," she says.
The turf at fields 4 and 5 at the Sports Park (closest to the netball courts) will be ready to play on in early March.
"We have a booking for a KiwiSport Cricket tournament for April 3rd so it's great to see sporting groups getting out here as soon as they can," says Sue. If you would like to get involved with cricket, please get in touch with Sue Costello. by email sue.costello@tcdc.govt.nz
"I am gauging the interest in cricket for next year and hope that cricket can start up next summer," she says.
Meanwhile Fields 1, 2, and 3 beside the amenity block was re-sown before Christmas with on-going weeding and irrigation maintenance to assist growth. These fields are expected to be ready to use by late April/early May.
