Rotorua Trust helps pave path to tertiary study
The Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust presented 43 local school students with Tertiary Study Awards at a special ceremony last night (10 February 2014).
Each recipient walked away with a grant valued at $2,000 per year for a
maximum tenure of four years.
Trust Chairman Grahame Hall said almost 840 Rotorua students have received Tertiary Study Awards, at a value of almost $6million, since the scheme began in 1996.
“The awards are provided to assist with full time undergraduate studies at any New Zealand Tertiary Institution for students who have attended a secondary school in the Rotorua District,” Mr Hall said.
Awards are made following close evaluation by the selection panel of an applicant’s academic achievement, leadership skills and community involvement, which includes their involvement in school activities.
“The selection panel has once again been very impressed by the calibre of the applications. This is largely due to a team of people at each secondary school
working very hard to support students at their respective schools,” Mr Hall said.
“I would especially like to thank fellow members of the selection panel, Trust Deputy Chairman, Jo-Anne La Grouw and Trustee, Trevor Maxwell, as well as Trust staff, for their support this year in the selection process.”
