Horowhenua Youth Voice recruitment underway
The Horowhenua Youth Council is seeking new members for the 2014 school year.
The Youth Council, also known as Youth Voice, consists of 12 representatives aged from 13 to 19 years and from
throughout the district.
Horowhenua District Council's Community Development Officer Garreth Stevens says members gain valuable skills by
participating in team building exercises, event management, and volunteering for community groups, as well as gaining a
valuable insight into governance.
"We are looking for enthusiastic young people who are passionate about the Horowhenua and want to make a positive impact
on behalf of their generation."
Mr Stevens says Horowhenua Youth Voice was established in 2009 to provide the youth of the district with a channel to
express their needs and share their vision.
He says that five years later the Youth Voice team remains leaders in identifying and solving issues that affect young
people by playing a significant part in the delivery of the Horowhenua District Council Youth Action Plan.
"They also form the ultimate youth consulting group for both Council and community-led initiatives."
Selected annually, members of Youth Voice can serve for two terms.
