Rain continues to play havoc with traffic on Northland's roads.
Yesterday there were several crashes on the region's roads following the first significant rain fall in weeks.
Police have been kept busy with more crashes today. Within the space of two hours, between 11.15am and 1.15pm, there
were six crashes on Northland's roads.
11.15am - An elderly woman received minor injuries after her car left the road and ended up in a ditch on Pipiwai Road.
She had to be cut from the car and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
11.45am - One person received minor injuries after a car crashed on State Highway 11, between Kawakawa and Paihia.
12.37pm - Three people received minor injuries (not requiring hospital treatment) following a two-car crash on Western
Hills Drive. The cars needed towing from the scene.
12.39pm - Another two-car crash on State Highway One near Kauri, north of Whangärei resulted in two people being injured
(status unknown at this stage).
12.46pm - A car spun out of control near Opua and went off a bank. Signs are now being erected to warn motorists of the
slippery conditions, as other vehicles have crashed in the same place over the last two days.
1.13 pm - A nose-to-tail on Otaika Road occurred, but resulted in no injuries.
With rain set to continue throughout the day, Northland Police are urging motorists to take care.
They need to drive to the conditions and watch their following distances, as it takes longer to stop when the road is
wet and slippery.
Police do not want to see any tragedies on the roads, particularly when they can be avoided by taking care in the bad
weather.
