Name suppression has now expired for Geoffrey (Geoff) Trethewey, 89, retired podiatrist of Wellington and the Wairarapa.
Trethewey appeared for sentencing on 42 counts of indecent assault and sexual violation against children under twelve years of age. Many of the charges were representative over a period of time and he has been sentenced to 12 months home detention.
Detective Dave Bealing says, "Wellington Police laid charges after receiving a complaint from a female in 2011. An investigation located a further nine women and one man who also made complaints."
"The charges related to ongoing abuse of the victims when they were aged from about seven through to their early teens, during the period from the mid-70s through to the early 90s."
"Trethewey was known in the Newtown and Mt Cook areas over this time."
“I believe there may be other victims and I urge them to get in contact with me,” says Detective Bealing.
