Colonial Cottage kicks off Music at Home

The 2014 Music at Home series at Colonial Cottage Museum launches with Victoria Thompson performing songs inspired by
early 1900s Wellington and her own heritage.
On Sunday 22 February at 2pm, the songstress tunes the piano to highlight the memories of our past through a mixture of
period pieces and original songs. Victoria’s works are inspired by her Great Aunt Mamie (born in 1908), who played the
piano for silent movies. Between sets we invite you to enjoy a byo picnic in the cottage garden with the heritage
chickens.
Victoria completed classical grades in both piano and singing during her time at high school in Christchurch and playing
in jazz bands were a definite highlight of her later school years. Since moving to Wellington, Victoria has completed a
BA in music and involved herself in projects ranging from reggae covers to operetta. She currently teaches keyboard and
singing and plays regularly at rest homes around Wellington. Recently, Victoria had the opportunity to play for to
silent movies at The Film Archive.
The Music at Home series continues at Colonial Cottage Museum on Sunday 9 and 23 March at 2pm with innovative young
musicians from Wellington placing their spin on the early settler practice of making music at home.
