Police investigate overnight aggravated robberies
Canterbury, 27 January 2014 - Christchurch Police are investigating two armed robberies at licensed premises in different parts of the city overnight.
In the first incident, Coasters Tavern, on Daniels Road, Redwood, was robbed at gunpoint on Sunday at about 9.45pm.
Police believe two males carrying firearms entered the bar and made off with a sum of cash.
At about 11pm The Brewery, Woolston, was robbed after two males entered the bar with firearms.
Detective Senior Sergeant Darryl Sweeney says Police are investigating both incidents this morning, and are confirming details of the robberies.
Detailed scene examinations are being carried out at the premises this morning. The victims are being provided support.
Detective Senior Sergeant Darryl Sweeney says the enquiry is in its early stages, but Police believe it is likely there are links between these incidents and the robberies at licensed premises in Riccarton and Merivale prior to Christmas.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Christchurch police on (03) 3637400.
Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
