Warning signs up at Judges Bay beach
Auckland Council has placed warning signs at Judges Bay beach to advise swimmers and other beach users of poor water quality.
The high levels of bacteria were found in Judges Bay by the council’s Safeswim monitoring programme which tests water quality across 63 of Auckland’s beaches.
The testing is in accordance with national guidelines and tested the levels of specific bacteria indicators that suggest a potential risk to human health.
Auckland Council does not yet know the source of contamination but is investigating.
The water will be tested again tomorrow morning. The council will be in a position to advise on any further action 24 hours after the second sample.
