"Home destroyed by fire - Otahuhu"
Police are assisting the Fire service in Otahuhu where a house has been completely destroyed by fire. Four young children and one adult have been accounted for, with no serious injuries.
Preliminary investigation of the scene suggests that the fire started as a result of children playing with matches inside the house.
Police say while the home is completely destroyed, the outcome could have been a lot worse and all five people are lucky to have escaped the fire.
The incident highlights the importance of ensuring matches and lighters are always kept out of reach of children. Police ask that homeowners take the opportunity to ensure smoke detectors are working and are fitted throughout your home.
