Wet and windy weather ahead for the north
Cyclone June was reclassified as an ex-tropical cyclone by the Fiji Meteorological Service at 7:00 NZDT on Sunday the
19th of January, however this low should still bring to rain and strong winds to many parts of New Zealand.
Rain and wind with this system should reach the upper North Island on late Monday, and will then spread to the central
and southern parts of New Zealand during Tuesday. Metservice meteorologist Elke Louw commented, "Although there will be
widespread rain over the North Island and top of the South Island, however, few if any districts are likely to receive
warning amounts of rain." Strong or gale force winds are likely as the low crosses the North Island, particularly over
the sea, and heavy swells may affect the east coast from Cape Reinga to Bay of Plenty on Tuesday.
Conditions will improve over most areas as the low moves away to the southeast.
While drier conditions are expected for the North Island for the remainder of the week, the South Island can expect more
rainfall in the south and west, with a frontal system approaching from the Tasman Sea on Wednesday.
