Popular KJet locals’ day to raise funds for two local charities
Queenstown’s KJet is once again giving back to the local community raising funds for two local charities at its annual
locals’ day.
Established in 1960, and still locally owned and operated, KJet will offer Wakatipu locals rides at just $20 for adults
and $10 for children (aged from five to 15) with proceeds going to the Bruce Grant Youth Trust and the Lakeland
Christian Camp.
Scheduled for next Saturday January 25 the KJet Locals Day will be a fun family affair with rides starting at 9am
running until 5pm.
Locals don’t need to book and can just turn up on the day and join in the party atmosphere at the company’s Main Town
Pier.
There will be a fundraising sausage sizzle by the Lakeland Christian Camp, face painting and Mr Whippy on hand to keep
the young ones amused.
KJet director Shaun Kelly said the day was always a huge event on the local calendar thanks to the discounted price and
the fact that monies raised go to two local charities that focus on youth development.
“We’re one of Queenstown’s first adventure activities and the world’s first commercial Jet boat company, which the
Christian Youth Trust helped set up,” he said.
“We strongly value our community roots and this is one day where, thanks to great local support, we can give back to our
community.”
More than 900 locals experienced KJet’s “one hour of sheer power” last year raising over $5,000 in the process.
“Last year the queue could be seen from the Skyline Gondola and we experienced fantastic Jet boating weather; warm and
calm. It’s always a busy day so we encourage people to get in early, be patient, relax and enjoy the KJet ‘party on the
pier’.
“There is a lot to keep people entertained while they wait. Mr Whippy will be there to take orders from the crowds
-perfect if it’s a hot day like we anticipate –and a percentage of their takings on the day will go to the charities.”
The company will also have the KJet Locals Card on offer, which costs just $50 for adults and $30 for children and is
valid for 12 months from issue.
“What that means is that anyone who takes a ride with us on Locals’ Day can pay just an extra $30 or $20 for the card
and Jet boat with us all year round,” he said.
Mr Kelly said the Locals Day was the company’s way of saying “thank you” to the community who are at the core of the
established tourism business.
Locals who miss out on the Locals Day activities can still buy the annual locals card at any time from the KJet team on
the Main Town Pier.
A hardcopy bill or payslip with proof of residence is needed to buy either the Locals Day ride or KJet Locals Card.
Locals Day rides are payable by cash only.
