Missing Kayaker
Police are currently coordinating a search for a male after he came out of his kayak, near Turihaua Point, north of Gisborne. This was reported to police at 4.40pm this afternoon.
It appears that a male and female where about 1 kilometre out from the beach when they have got in to difficulty. A nearby boat has rescued the female and returned her to shore.
Currently the Eastland Community Rescue helicopter is searching the area, along with a fixed wing aircraft and Surf life Saving boats from Wainui in an attempt to locate the male. It is believed that the male is in his mid 20's and was not wearing a life jacket.
At this stage, it is still a Search and Rescue operation and this will be reassessed in several hours.
A further update will be made when more information is known.
