Diversions are now operating around the scene of the fatal crash at Karaka.
Eastbound traffic is being diverted onto Blackbridge Road and across the Hingaia Bridge to the motorway interchange. Westbound traffic is being diverted onto the old Great South Road.
Police attending the scene confirm that three cars were involved and that one person is dead. Another person is listed as status 1 with grave concerns for their survival. A third is listed as having status 3 (moderate) injuries.
Once again motorists travelling home are asked to consider alternative routes as the scene is almost certain to still be closed through the rush hour.
