Police are continuing to crack down on burglary, stolen vehicles and theft-ex car offences in the Far North.
Last week Police arrested three people known for their prolific volume crime offending.
Early on Friday (January 10) afternoon Police stopped a vehicle in Moerewa. They recognised the couple in the vehicle,
as one of them was wanted for breaching parole.
The 41-year-old man and 45-year-old woman are now in custody and facing charges of burglary, theft ex-car and unlawful
taking of a motor vehicle.
The man will appear in the Kaikohe District Court on January 14 and the woman will appear in the same court on January
24.
The same day Police arrested a 15-year-old boy in Kaikohe. He was believed to have been involved in several theft and
burglary offences.
The boy will be appearing in the Kaikohe Youth Court facing charges of burglary, theft ex-car and unlawful taking of a
motor vehicle.
Far North Area Commander Inspector Wendy Robilliard says it was a great team effort by staff in the Far North to catch
these offenders and ensure that they would not get the opportunity to continue with their crimes.
"We are taking a zero tolerance to dishonesty offending in Northland and will make sure we hold these offenders to
account.
Police take this offending seriously. It is not a victimless crime and people who are burgled or have any items stolen
feel violated."
Ms Robilliard says ultimately this crime needs to be prevented and the community can help by reporting suspicious
activity to the Police or taking steps to protect their property and other belongings.
"We can catch the offenders, but people would rather not be victims in the first place."
