Arrests Following Assault in Albert Town
Wanaka Police are currently investigating a violent daylight assault that occurred in a suburban Albert Town street.
Police received multiple calls at 12:44 pm on Thursday afternoon after a group of males were seen assaulting a single male victim on Dale Street.
Attending police apprehended 3 males leaving the scene.
Two males, aged 17 and 20 are to appear in the Queenstown District Court on the 10th January 2013 charged with Assault with Intent to Injure.
A 3rd 15 year old male has been referred to Police Youth Aid Section.
""The assault was witnessed by a number of residents who were concerned at the ferocity and duration of the attack on the victim", Sergeant Simon PAGET, of Wanaka Police said.
"Wanaka Police are still very keen to speak to any other individuals who witnessed the attack and urge them to get in touch."
Police are also appealing for sightings and information regarding vehicle involved in the incident. The vehicle is described as a Silver Mitsubishi Chariot vehicle which appeared to be set up for freedom camping. "A male and female in this vehicle are key to our investigation and we would like to speak to them as soon as possible."
"As the two are possibly visitors to New Zealand and may be transient or residing in camping grounds we would ask the general public to keep an eye out for it and report any sightings to police".
"We are very concerned about the wellbeing of the occupants and urge them to get in touch with Police" Sergeant PAGET said.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Wanaka Police (03) 443 7272.
