The tussle for a summer pattern goes on
The recent spell of active weather, that has helped bring widespread wind, rain and thunder, along with unseasonably cool air, will pull away to the east of the country in the next 24 hours to make way for quieter and more settled weather as we head into the weekend.
MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented,"A small high is expected to get the weekend off to a fine start over most of the country."
However, this fine spell will be short lived as another front moves up the southern parts of the country during the second half of the weekend followed by another cool southerly change. This change should sweep over the North Island on Monday.
In the days after Monday, a cool west to southwest flow is likely to persist over the country while a new anticyclone sits poised over the Tasman Sea.
