In a new twist to the concept of Neighbourhood Support, a fleeing driver tonight received the support of members of her community who hurled bottles at the pursuing police car as she dumped her vehicle and fled on foot.
At about 6:40 pm tonight the woman driver was chased by police after they were told by a member of the public that she had stolen petrol from a service station. After a short pursuit the woman drove into Sefton Crescent, Chartwell where she dumped the car and ran off. As the police patrol car entered Sefton Crescent it was pelted with bottles by other people in the street.
The police officer was not injured however the police car suffered smashed windows. Police are currently searching a number of houses in the area looking for the woman who's identity is known.
