"Arrests made in Papakura Home Invasion - Papakura - Counties Manukau"
At approximately 1.30am on Saturday 4th January, a Papakura residential address was burgled by five offenders armed with a firearm and knives.
The offenders assaulted some of the occupants and threatened others with the firearm and a knife before leaving the address with electrical items.
Police staff already patrolling the immediate area saw the offender's vehicle, a 1994 red Mitsubishi FTO, leaving the area and stopped it a short distance away as it began entering another local address. Property stolen from the burgled address was found in the car. Other property (laptop computer equipment) was located along the route the offenders travelled before being stopped by police.
The firearm, described as a long weapon, has not been recovered and may have been thrown from the car as it left the scene says Detective Senior Sergeant Aaron Proctor of the Papakura Police. He asks that anyone finding a firearm discarded on the roadside in the Papakura East area to contact the police immediately.
One occupant later required medical treatment as a result of the assault on him.
The five offenders range in age from 15 to 19 and have been arrested and will be charged with aggravated burglary. They are due to appear in the Papakura Court next week.
