Fine weather on the horizon
There will be a welcome quieter spell across much of New Zealand in the coming days following the recent spell of active
spring weather.
MetService Meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented, "The next several days will be a nice change, as decent fine spells
spread across the country. Temperatures will also be quite respectable as we head through the
weekend."
The frontal system approaching the far south will slide up the country in the next 24 to 36 hours, before weakening
across the North Island during early Saturday. It will bring a spell of heavy rain to parts of the West coast of the
South Island, and strong to severe gales in some exposed locations further east. The warm northwesters will push the
mercury into the 20's on the eastern side of the Alps.
Over the weekend a large anticyclone will build across the country, bringing settled weather and plenty of sunshine
across New Zealand.
The fine and settled weather will last into early next week when a new weather system will spread in from the Tasman
Sea.
