Creativity, Culture and Clear Skies – Great turnout for ATAMIRA Maori in the City
Even the weather came to the party this weekend for the 4th biannual ATAMIRA Maori in the City festival, with everyone enjoying the perfect conditions for a display of Maori heritage on Auckland’s waterfront.
Event organisers were delighted by this weekend’s turnout, which boasted a more diverse range of cultures than ever before, highlighting the multiculturalism of the bustling cosmopolitan city.
“We were really pleased to be able to share our heritage with so many different people from all walks of life,” says Alec Hawke, event director.
As promised, a few surprise faces appeared on the Sunday, including Whenua Patuwai from New Zealand’s X Factor and team members from the Maori All Blacks.
Handprints of people from all walks of life were etched on a pou to mark ATAMIRA 2013. The pou will now be taken to Orakei Marae to stand as a reminder for the most successful festival yet.
