Operation Dustin - homicide investigation launched
Operation Dustin is a homicide investigation launched after new information
was received by Wellington Police investigating the missing person report of
68-year-old New Zealand Resident Do TRIEU.
Mr Trieu was last seen around five years ago on 21 August 2008 and was
reported missing to Police by his daughter on 14 September 2008.
He was a Vietnamese national who moved to New Zealand in 1980. After moving
to New Zealand he worked as a taxi driver and lived in Wellington.
At this point of the investigation, Police are seeking to locate the body of
Mr Trieu and establishing whom was responsible for his death.
It is believed that he was killed around the time of his disappearance of 21
August 2008.
Investigation head, Detective Senior Sergeant Warwick McKee, from the
Wellington CIB says "Police have continually reviewed this investigation to
determine if new lines of inquiry could be established".
"Valuable new information has been obtained and we have followed up many key
lines of inquiry which has lead to the investigation now being a homicide
investigation. We believe that Mr Trieu has been killed by another person or
persons".
"Mr Trieu was a honest hard working man lived in New Zealand for nearly 30
years and was known by many in the community. I am determined to locate his
body and give his family and friends some resolution and answers to the many
questions that they seek".
