Wednesday, 28 August 2013 - 3:06pm
Counties Manukau
At about 12:15 this afternoon, there was an incident involved school children on a bus that was on SH20 travelling between Massey Rd and Puhinui Rd.
A red or maroon car entered the motorway at Massey Road and came up behind the bus in the right-hand lane. Witnesses in the bus saw what they believed was a pistol pointed at the bus. Subsequently a window in the bus was shattered. The bus exited the motorway at Puhinui Road.
None of the 15 people on the bus (including school children, teachers and driver) were injured. Victim support will be referred to assist the group.
Initial indications are that the weapon was a BB gun and that the occupants of the bus were not specifically targeted.
Witness reports at this stage are unclear on the description of the vehicle but Police would like to hear from anyone who saw a red or maroon car acting suspiciously in the area of Papatoetoe or on SH20, or anyone who saw or has any information about this incident.
Police would like to remind members of the public that anytime someone points a weapon that discharges an object at anyone or anything they must be aware that the consequences could be serious or fatal injury.
Anyone who has information for Police should contact Otahuhu Police on 09 259 1200 or to submit information anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
