Motorists reminded to give way on Curletts Road roundabout
A number of minor crashes on the Curletts Road roundabout on State Highway 75, near the onramp to the Christchurch Southern Motorway has prompted the NZ Transport Agency to remind motorists of the need to give way to all vehicles on the roundabout.
Since Christchurch Southern Motorway Stage 1 opened in December last year, there have been a number of minor crashes at the eastern roundabout involving vehicles wanting to access the southbound motorway on-ramp, says the Transport Agency's Highway Manager Christchurch Colin Knaggs.
"As with any multi-laned roundabout, motorists travelling west from Halswell Road along State Highway 75 need to give way to all vehicles that may cross their path from their right as they enter the Curletts Road roundabout.
"They need to take particular care in watching for motorists travelling along Curletts Road who have come from State Highway 73 (Blenheim Road) and are wanting to travel around both the roundabouts and exit left on to the motorway on-ramp heading south," he says.
"A white spiral has been painted on the inside lane of the roundabout at State Highway 75 which is designed to encourage motorists who intend to exit the roundabout via the on-ramp to cross to the outer lane as they round the top of the roundabout.
"This provides a better early warning to motorists entering the roundabout from State Highway 75 (from Halswell Road) that the motorist intends to cross to the outer lane to exit at the southbound on-ramp."
