Southland police seek assault suspect
Invercargill Police are asking members of the public living in or near Balfour, Northern Southland, to keep a look out for a 30-year-old Invercargill man who they want to apprehend in relation to an alleged serious assault.
Police staff, including the Invercargill AOS squad, visited an address on the Lumsden-Riversdale Highway in the township of Balfour today in an attempt to locate the man, who is wanted in relation to an alleged serious assault that occurred in the weekend. They cleared a house at the address and in doing so the man was not located.
The man had been at the address in the weekend.
The AOS presence was a precaution in case there were firearms at the address.
Police believe the man may now be travelling on foot in the area. He is described as Caucasian, 182cm in height, medium to solid build with short dark hair and clean shaven.
He is not believed to be a danger to the public but anyone who sees someone fitting his description should not approach him but call 111 immediately.
