An active week of westerlies
This week, a brisk westerly flow across New Zealand will keep weather systems coming, with wet weather likely in many
western places.
"On Tuesday, there's a fleeting settled spell before an active trough rattles across the country in the afternoon and
evening," commented MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Dan Corbett. "In western parts of both islands,
this trough may be accompanied by squally thunderstorms."
"The influence of the westerlies doesn't stop there" Corbett went on to say."Western coasts of both islands will see
moderate to heavy southwest swells for the next few days. Be careful when fishing off the rocks." Meanwhile, eastern
parts of both islands are expected to be largely dry over the next few days.
North Island ski fields will benefit from a top-up of fresh snow in the coming days, but any real cold air is still
remaining well south of the New Zealand for the coming week.
