Settled in the south while the north watches the low
Parts of the North Island are expected to be windy, some wet, and others both at times this weekend.
"A sub-tropical low is expected to move across the sea area to the east of the North Island during Saturday and Sunday,"
commented MetService Media and Communications Meteorologist Dan Corbett.
"While there is still quite a lot of uncertainty about the exact path this low will take, it seems likely that the
highest rainfalls will be in the east, from Northland to Bay of Plenty and from Gisborne to Wairarapa. The strongest
winds are likely to be over the northern half of the North Island."
The location, timing and extent of the rain and strong winds are critically dependent on the path taken by the
sub-tropical low. A small change in the forecast path of the low could very likely result in a large change in the
forecast weather. "Given this, it will be particularly important for those in the North to keep up-to-date with
MetService forecasts over the next few days," Corbett went on to say.
In contrast to the North Island, the South Island is expected to have a more settled weekend. Saturday should be
reasonably fine, with little wind, in most South Island places. On Sunday, there is likely to be a bit of rain around.
