Road repairs along State Highway 2 over Chapel St Viaduct

Road repairs this weekend along State Highway 2 over the Chapel Street Viaduct
Drivers using State Highway 2 over the Chapel Street Viaduct in Tauranga are advised to expect delays as road repairs will be undertaken either this Saturday or Sunday afternoon, says the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA).
Contractors will close one lane at the western end of the Chapel Street Viaduct to traffic heading towards Mount Maunganui so the maintenance work can be undertaken, says NZ Transport Agency’s Bay of Plenty State Highways Manager, Brett Gliddon.
“The work will require a short section of the viaduct to be reduced to one lane, the lanes into the City from Mount Maunganui will not be affected.”
The works are weather dependent, and are planned to take place on the afternoon of Saturday 6 July from 1.00pm. Wet weather may delay the works to Sunday 7 July from 1.00pm. Signage will guide traffic through the work area and a temporary speed restriction will be in place for the safety of workers and drivers throughout this work.
Mr Gliddon says the work has been specifically scheduled for the weekend to minimise the impact on drivers. “These works are weather dependent and will be delayed to the next fine weekend if the weather is bad.”
‘We know that this area of the highway can be quite busy, so we will be monitoring traffic movements to ensure delays for drivers are minimised.”
“We want to thank drivers in advance for their patience while we get this important maintenance work completed, if motorists want to find out more about the timing of these works they should go to the NZTA’s website at www.nzta.govt.nz/traffic/current-conditions; or free phone 0800 4HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49).”
The agency also uses other technology to provide information to enable drivers to make better informed choices about their travel. On The Move is a free service which enables people to sign up for information about crashes, road works and driving conditions on their frequently used routes - to sign up, go to www.onthemove.govt.nz.
