Severe Weather Closes Hannafords Wharf
Hannafords Wharf is closed temporarily due to galeforce winds and rough seas.
The wild weather has meant Council staff now needs to assess the safety of the wharf with the ongoing bad weather. A
Council engineer is currently on-site checking for damage.
Between September and December 2013 the wharf was closed after storm damage. About $140,000 of work was then undertaken
at the end of last year to improve structural safety. This included the replacement of hand rails, replacement of the
gangway and repairs to the existing floating pontoon.
"With this recent bought of ongoing bad weather we are taking precautions to ensure the wharf is still structurally safe
and sound," says Senior Communications and Marketing Officer Laurna White. "We're currently trying to contact wharf
users including charter operators and the 360 Ferry Service to update everyone about the situation."
"A decision will then be made on whether to reopen the wharf once our engineer has assessed the situation," says Mrs
White.
Meanwhile a $275.000 planned upgrade of the wharf is planned to start in July 2013.
