Three men arrested over assault of Canadian tourist
Police have arrested three Kawakawa men in relation to the aggravated robbery of a Canadian tourist in Paihia last week.
Two of the men, aged 21 and 22 years, have been charged with aggravated robbery. A third man, aged 20 years, has been
charged as an accessory after the fact for assisting them after the crime.
Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnston said Police had a great response from Paihia businesses and licensed premises,
which directly led to these arrests.
"They were rightfully "brassed off" about these robberies threatening their livelihoods and were pulling out all the
stops to try and help Police solve them."
Mr Johnston said that Police were still working on the Easter Weekend robbery of three English tourists.
"At this stage there seems to be no connection with Friday morning's robbery of the Canadian tourist. I'm confident that
someone locally will be able to help us solve the one involving the English tourists. There are certainly a lot of
people talking about it and I encourage them to forward any information to us."
Anyone with information can contact Kerikeri Police on 09 407 9211 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
The pair charged with robbing the Canadian tourist will appear in Kaikohe District Court today.
