Submissions Have Closed on the Draft Annual Plan 2013/14
Dunedin (Tuesday, 9 April 2013) – The Dunedin City Council has received 257 submissions on its Draft Annual Plan
2013/14.
Submissions on the DCC’s biggest consultation process for the year closed at 5pm today. More than 60% of people chose to
make a submission using an online form.
The most popular submission topics include opposition to fluoridation of the water supply, support for a new Mosgiel
swimming pool, cycleways and cycle safety, the widening of Portobello and Harington Point Roads, roading/footpath
maintenance and Forsyth Barr Stadium debt.
Last year’s Draft Annual Plan attracted 1024 submissions, but it also incorporated the Long Term Plan, which looks ahead
for the next decade.
Mayor of Dunedin Dave Cull says the lower number and nature of submissions this year seems to point to a higher level of
satisfaction with the direction the DCC has proposed.
“The Council’s proposals were largely based on extensive earlier consultation and residents appear to understand why we
are focusing on debt repayment and continuing to look for operational savings.”
Mr Cull says the Council appreciates the time and effort taken by people to make their views known and these will be
considered as part of the Annual Plan deliberations.
People who have indicated they want to speak to their submission will be heard when the DCC Annual Plan Hearings
Committee meets from Monday 6 May to Wednesday 8 May. Committee deliberations will be held from Monday 13 May to
Thursday 16 May.
The Annual Plan 2013/14 will be adopted by the Council on Monday 24 June.
