Police called to Milford Track
At about 11.30 on Saturday 23 February 2013 Te Anau police and medical staff were advised of an incident on the Milford
Track, Fiordland where a 68 year old male had collapsed whilst tramping.
The alarm was raised by a track guide and a medical response initiated from Te Anau. The guide carried out CPR for some
time.
A helicopter was dispatched from Te Anau with a doctor and police search and rescue personnel. Upon arrival the man was
pronounced dead.
Sergeant Tod Hollebon of Te Anau police said that the weather at McKinnon Pass where the incident occurred made access
more difficult, with a low cloud base, however it did not affect the ability of the medical team to attend.
The deceased man is a Korean national on holiday in New Zealand. Police are working with the Korean Embassy to inform
family members back in Korea.
There are no suspicious circumstances to the death and the matter has been referred to the coroner.
