Pegasus set to host women’s event
Pegasus is set to host another marquee event with the Bissell Women’s Series Triathlon and Duathlon taking place at the township this Saturday.
The triathlon event is contested over two distances; a 300m swim, 10k bike, 2.5k run and 300m swim, 20k bike, 5k run. The duathlon component consists of a 1.5k run, 10k bike, 2.5k run or 1.5k run, 20.8bike, 5k run.
The town’s feature lake is central to the event with the participants swimming in the crystal clear water before circumnavigating the large body of water as part of the running component.
Pegasus has an excellent reputation for staging large events and already host popular golf tournaments and dragon boat racing.
Mayor of Waimakariri, David Ayers, is delighted that Pegasus is staging the Tri NZ supported event.
“I extend my welcome to all, both local and from beyond, to Pegasus, a growing and exciting town in the Waimakariri District,” said Mr Ayers.
“Pegasus is attracting a lot of Canterbury people to its recreational opportunities and I know all competitors and spectators will enjoy the special place that it is.”
Haidee Stratford, Operations Manager from Tri NZ, said the hospitality of the local community and scenic course make Pegasus the ideal location for triathlon events in Canterbury.
“We are delighted to run another event at Pegasus,” said Stratford. “It is a great course that is very spectator friendly.”
“The outlook is beautiful, the event can be contained within the town and the lake is not only a stunning setting but a vital part of the event.”

When: 9.00am (start), Saturday, 23 February
Venue: Pegasus

Bissell Women’s Series
The Bissell Women’s Series offers triathlon and duathlon opportunities in a non-confrontational and safe environment, with the emphasis on fun, participation and achievement amongst friends, family and like minded women.
The series will have six events this summer, with all offering a triathlon and duathlon option for women, with easily achieved distances over largely flatcourses.
Pegasus
Pegasus town is a development located 25 kilometers north of Canterbury and is built around a 14-hectare lake and adjoins the 18-hole Pegasus Golf and Sports Club. It’s environmentally sensitive and includes 100 hectares of wetlands cross by boardwalks, trails and waterways.
