Flaxmere Family Festival features local entertainers
The fourth annual Flaxmere Family Festival will bring all the community together in a carnival atmosphere, with free,
non-stop entertainment, a large number of food stalls and plenty of action for the kids.
The festival will take place this Saturday from 10am at Flaxmere Park and features kiwi rapper and recording artist
Scribe. He will hold workshops at the festival which will encourage people to avoid the traps of gambling and is
supported by Choice Not Chance and Te Rangihaeata Oranga Trust (HB Gambling Services).
Cultural groups from Samoa and the Cook Islands will take the stage, and Ngatai Huata will perform Waiata from her new
CD “Lady Kaupapa Kupu Korero MD.” The event will be MC’d by well known entertainer Frankie Stevens who will also perform
some of his favourite songs throughout the day.
Over 40 stalls will set up in Flaxmere Park with a wide variety of food, information and displays from various community
groups. Kids will be well catered for with free entertainment including the reverse bungee, bouncy castles, mini jeeps,
the party train, slides and much more.
Flaxmere Councillor Henare O’Keefe says “Now into its fourth year, the festival keeps attracting a strong lineup of
local talent. There are many performers in our community who just need the right outlet for their talent and the
festival could be the start of a bright, new career for some of these budding artists. The festival is a smoke and
alcohol free event and is another great example of how the people of Flaxmere are taking ownership of their own
destiny.”
Fellow Councillor Jacoby Poulain says “The festival has become a positive initiative for Flaxmere and is a great way for
the whole community to come together. Our local entertainers are very special and this is a great way to showcase their
talents.”
The Flaxmere Family Festival will be held on Saturday 23rd February from 10am till 3pm at Flaxmere Park next to the Splash Pad.
The festival is proudly supported by Trust House, the Lotteries Commission, Eastern and Central Community Trust,
Hastings District Council along with a number of local businesses.
