Short Description: Fatal Car Crash
Full description:
An 18 female was killed in Meeanee, Napier last night when the vehicle she was a passenger in left the road and struck a tree.
The crash happened at around 11.40 pm on Awatoto Road when the 18 year old male driver lost control of his vehicle, which travelled through a stop sign and across an intersection before hitting the tree.
He, along with a 15 year male passenger from the vehicle were taken to Hawkes Bay Hospital. The full extent of their injuries is not yet known. The female was pronounced dead at the scene.
Damage caused by the crash was sufficient that all three persons had to be cut free from the wreckage by Fire Service staff.
Police are yet to determine the cause of the accident but are investigating the possibility that speed was a factor.
There were other cars travelling along the road at the time of the crash. Police are keen to speak to anyone in those cars or any other person who may have witnessed the crash or seen a Silver Holden Acclaim driving near the Meeanee area prior to the incident occurring.
They should contact Napier Police at the earliest possible opportunity.
