Council Issues Interim New Liquor Licences
New liquor licences in Auckland are being issued as interim licences for a maximum of one year as a temporary measure as
the country changes to new liquor licensing system.
This change is part of the raft of changes to liquor licensing as part of the new Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act.
Applicants can opt to have the final licence decision deferred until after 18 June this year, when licences will be
issued under the new regulations. While this is the only immediate change affecting businesses, council is urging
licensees to make themselves aware of the other changes from the new liquor legislation confirmed in December 2012.
“Nearly every part of liquor licensing in Auckland is changing over the next year including fees, application processes
and criteria,” says James Jefferson, Manager Licensing & Compliance Central.
