Comments on Draft New Brighton Centre Master Plan needed by 18 February 2012
Residents and businesses have two weeks left to tell the Christchurch City Council their views on the vision, goals and actions proposed in the Draft New Brighton Centre Master Plan. The Plan has been prepared to support the recovery and rebuild of New Brighton's commercial centre in response to the damage caused by the earthquakes.
The final date for public submissions is 5pm on Monday 18 February 2013.
The Plan is available to view in any of the Council's open service centres and libraries. It is also available online at www.ccc.govt.nz/haveyoursay
City Planning Unit Manager Brigitte de Ronde says the feedback received on the Plan at the recent drop-in session was very encouraging - people are excited about the future of their centre.
"We have had positive feedback on the idea of reinforcing the river-to-sea link through the centre and high on the list of 'must-haves' are the proposed new public toilets and the bus interchange.
"There has been a steady stream of submissions on the Plan coming in - we have already received over 100 - and expect this to build as the closing date for comments approaches.
"People may also want to reflect on the separate, independent proposal to develop a water park in New Brighton. Reference to the water park can be included in formal submissions to the Draft New Brighton Centre Master Plan. However, I would encourage people to make sure they have their say on specific actions in the Draft Master Plan. These submissions will help the Council to understand your views, which will result in a robust, workable Plan that has a high level of community buy-in," she says.
