Kawarau River Trail Detour
A detour will be in place by this afternoon after a 20m section of Kawarau River Trail slumped over the weekend, Queenstown Lakes District Council community services general manager Paul Wilson said.
The section of the trail bordering Remarkables Park had first been reported as slumping on Friday, after high river levels had scoured into the bank . “Over the weekend it became apparent the area was slumping further and we have had to take action to close the trail at that point for safety reasons,” Mr Wilson said.
Council would re-open the trail with the detour in place later this afternoon. “It will be some time before we can reinstate the original trail, possibly 2-3 months but the detour will ensure the trail can stay open,” he said.
