Water Rescue on Tamaki River
At about 9:50 this morning members of the public reported a male swimmer in difficulties in the Tamaki Estuary near Point England. The Police Air support Unit (Eagle) and a Maritime unit Rigid Hulled inflatable boat were dispatched to the scene.
When the helicopter arrived at the scene the swimmer was seen to be in serious difficulties and immediate danger and a member of the helicopter crew was dropped into the water with a lifejacket. The 17 year old swimmer was assisted ashore by the crewman where he was checked out by St John ambulance. No medical treament was necessary.
